Three of our researchers, Estitxu Garai, Patxi Azpillaga and Iñigo Beitia, were awarded on the XIV Edition of Txillardegi Hausnartu Sociolinguistics Prizes.

Estitxu Garai and Patxi Azpillaga –together with some other researchers of Nik Research Group- were awarded with the second prize for the work entitled “The brand of basque language: from marketing to language planification”. The jury valued the importance of applying the idea of brand to language, emphasizing that it can be very practical for anyone interested on campainging for it.

On the other hand, Iñigo Beitia received the third award, for the work “The influence of culture in language revitalization. Some temporary conclusions”. In this case, the jury said that the work responds to some of the issues that concern experts on the language revitalization area nowadays, and also that the history of Basque language revitalization it is well collected.

The Txillardegi-Hausnartu Prizes have the aim to tribute Jose Luis Alvarez Enparantza Txillardegi, a well known Basque sociolinguist, founder in 1990 of BAT Sociolinguistics Journal, being its director until 2002. Also, he worked at the university, and was widely engaged to many other social issues, always relationated with Basque language culture and nation.
