Ainara Santamaria, member of the NOR group, has addressed the dialectics between tradition and experimentation in her Doctorate thesis named Itxi, Zabalik or Clic. An analysis and reflection on Basque culture, at the crossroads of music-experimentation and tradition.She has approached the issue through Mikel Laboa’s case.
Using the inductive method, she interviewed several experimental musicians to analyze how experimentation and tradition are currently trapped and to better understand Laboa’s work. The supervisors of the work were Enrique Hurtado and Josu Amezaga.
The evaluation committee formed by Mari Luz Esteban (UPV/EHU), Larraitz Ariznabarreta (UNR) and Iratxe Aristegi (UD) very positively valued the work of Santamaría, assesing her work with the highest rating.
The defense was held on December 21, 2022 at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication of the UPV/EHU.
